Ikimonogakari Announces Hiatus

Ikimonogakari have announced they’ll be hitting a “grazing period” as the pop group announces an indefinite hiatus.
Ikimonogakari made the announcement that each of the three members will enter a “grazing period” aimed at exploring their potential and expanding their artistic capabilities over an indefinite amount of time. The members shared their thoughts via the group’s official website “First of all, thank you for everything. We want all our fans to continue to support our endeavors. Ikimonogakari is a place the three of us plan to return, but let’s keep our heads up with a smile until then.”

Solo activities for all members will be revealed shortly through the group’s official website.
Ikimonogakari [いきものがかり] is a Japanese pop rock band hailing from Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The group was formed in February 1999 with Hotaka Yamashita and Yoshiki Mizuno who had later added vocalist Kiyoe Yoshioka in November of the same year. The group’s name is a reference to ikimono-gakari [生き物係], a group of children who are responsible for looking after plants and animals in Japanese elementary schools.
In 2006, the group released its first major label single titled Sakura on Sony Music Entertainment Japan’s Epic Records label. Several of its albums have reached number one on the Oricon weekly rankings, and their songs have been featured on various media: from TV commercials, anime such as Naruto Shippuuden, Japanese TV Dramas such as Onna wa sore wo yurusanai [女はそれを許さない], live action movies such as Time Traveler: The Girl Who Leapt Through TimeEiga: Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, the 2012 Olympic broadcast theme song for NHK, and the set piece for a national junior high music competition. The group celebrated their 10th anniversary in in 2016 with a special Best Of album and outdoor concert in their hometown.
